What to write about myself?
I’m a wife, a mother, a teacher, a researcher, a gamer, a reader, a singer, a poet, all in one.
I’m a wife of Yudi since February 1999 and a mother of Jalu since November 2000. Our family resides in Salatiga, Indonesia, a little town with lots of charms and good weather all year long. You can read some stories of my personal life in my personal blog.
I’m a teacher at the Faculty of Language and Literature of Satya Wacana Christian University since January 2001. I graduated from the department in 1997 and I enjoy standing in front of the class and teaching my students all important matters for their professional development. I’m not really keen on correcting papers and preparing materials, but I manage
I’m a researcher. My research interests include Computer-Assisted Language Learning, Sociolinguistics, English for Specific Purposes, and Teachers Training. I’m also into computer-mediated communication and code-mixing/code-switching. If you’re interested in researching these topics, let me know and we’ll do something together.
More about my professional perspective and work, you can go to my professional website.
I’m an avid gamer particularly those strategy games like The Sims, Tycoons games. I can spend weeks, just finishing one scenario. I think it’s the manager within me who directs my choice of games. But I do enjoy games like Bud the Red Head which is very much a skill game.
I’m a reader and a poet. Reading is a part of my daily life, and books are scattered everywhere in my house (My grandmother even complained about it, particularly on the fact that we keep books in our bathroom! Now, this is maybe not very strange in western bathrooms, but in Indonesia bathrooms are a constantly wet place where anything not related to taking a bath is forbidden). My favorite authors among a few are Y.B. Mangunwijaya, NH. Dini, J.K. Rowling, Umberto Eco, Bill Bryson. When things are getting rowdy and too much to keep in my mind or my heart, I jot down few lines into any piece of paper that I can find and people call it a poem (I’d rather call it ‘rant’). Some poems that I wrote are posted in my poem and photo blog, if you’re interested.
Oh, and I love singing. I was in some bands and choir. When I was in the US for my Master degree, I won a couple of singing competitions in campus level and I performed in some campus events. I just enjoy being on stage and feel the enthusiasm of the audience. I think this is another proof my narcistic tendency
So, that’s about me. Quite much, I guess. Maybe it’s more objective if other people say something about me so feel free to put your comments. Some people’s comments are listed in my friendster profile or my facebook profile.

glad to find you online, mbak neny. one of your ’senior’ fellow from UKSW, Dr. Sri Hastuti Kurniawan (google her) was a lecturer in the Dept of Informatics, Univ of Manchester. she, too, just like you (and me at that time
), worked on HCI and on computing for the disabled and the elderly. she is so brilliant that University of California Santa Cruz recruited her during her sabatical leave

Hello Neny,
I found your blog when looking for information about the javanese funeral rituals. I found very interesting what you shared about the funeral in your RT, and I was thinking if that applies also to the little city I live in, Salatiga, and then surprise!
I think I may be your first and only Latin American “friend”. From Costa Rica, but mostly out of my country for work reasons for some years already. We also share some common hobbies like reading, literature and history. Even computer games!. Ok. Greetings to your husband and son.
Un amigo,
Gustavo
